Dear President Trump,
I urge you to consider allowing President Paul Kagame the opportunity to maintain his dignity. Given the recent circumstances following the expulsion of his forces from Eastern Congo, which has been under his control since 1996, I kindly request that you postpone the agreement regarding the withdrawal of his army until July 4, 2025.

This date holds significant historical importance; it marks the anniversary of Kagame's ascent to power in Rwanda after the overthrow of the previous regime in 1994. It is a day when he is celebrated as a national liberator. In fact, he has declared a week-long national holiday to honor this pivotal moment in his leadership.
If you enforce his departure from the Democratic Republic of the Congo prior to July 4, it will strip Kagame of the heroic narrative he has cultivated over the years. Instead of being seen as a victor addressing his nation, he risks being perceived as a defeated leader ousted by a stronger force.
I implore you, President Trump, to allow Kagame this chance to present himself as a strong leader on July 4. By delaying the peace agreement until then, you will help him avoid an unwarranted humiliation that could have lasting repercussions for both Rwanda and the region.
Thank you for considering this thoughtful approach.
Warm regards,
David Himbara
